The Women Behind The Blue Wife Life Podcast.

I think it is fair to assume that when we are little we all believe that we will grow up side by side with our best friends. We will continue celebrating each others birthdays, weddings & kids as the years go by! It is a rare moment when that actually happens! These two ladies have that rare relationship that we all dreamed of as kids & not only that but they both married into law enforcement! Marriage & motherhood is difficult enough to navigate, then throw in the law enforcement life & it just ups the challenges and stresses even more! I am so excited that Becky and Mary decided to combine marriage, life, motherhood & being a LEOW (Law Enforcement Officers Wife) all into one sweet packaged podcast!

Where are you two settling down these days?

Becky: After bouncing around the country we are putting down roots deep in the heart of Texas.

Mary: After living in Tulsa for 8 years, we moved back to Texas to be close to family. We were placed in Tulsa when my husband became an agent.

How did you find yourself creating this business/passion project?

Becky: My husband was placed in Laredo, Texas out of academy. At the time I thought this was the end of the world. However, it was a blessing in disguise. So many federal families are placed there from all over the country and we all were looking to make a home away from home. We had this amazing community of families representing various agencies. After moving again I realized how special that was.

Mary: We talk just about everyday and have known each other since sixth grade. One day we were talking about it and Becky said, “We should start a podcast!” I didn’t think we could do it. (Yes, Debbie downer over here.) Maybe Becky should be in sales because here we are over one year later from that initial conversation and Blue Wife Life Podcast is about to launch season two!

What is your business/passion project about?

We are all about creating a blue family across the nation. We know not everyone has friends in the law enforcement world and sometimes you just want to hear from someone else who gets it. I remember my mom kinda sounding suspicious that my husband has a work phone that I can’t see and occasionally leaving at all hours of the night after taking a phone call on it. What’s that all about? Is that his side chick? Or rather just normal activity that’s part of the job that other leows understand…..it better be anyway! ;) We want Blue Wife Life Podcast to be a place that brings you comfort and encouragement. It’s a place where your fears and frustrations can be recognized. We are an interview show who have on guests with inspirational stories or are experts in their field. Our first episode in Season two is on anxiety. While this is a topic that the general public may find interesting we try to look at it through the scope of a blue families lens.

If you could pick a song to best describe you or your business what would it be?

Becky: Ha! I racked my brain on this one. All I can think of is Mary and I dancing in college to Def Leppard’s, “Pour Some Sugar On Me!” Can I get a pass on this question? This is a terrible song if you want people to take you seriously. However, if you are 20 (or 36) it’s such a great dance song.

Mary: Brave by Sara Bareilles because when you put out a podcast you need to have some thick skin.

What is your favorite quote?

Mary: Right now at this current time in my life… my favorite quote would be “The days are long, but the years are short.” I have a newborn, almost 3 year old and 6 year old. I don’t want to wish away the time, but I am pretty exhausted most days. So I try to remember this quote when I feel like I’m drowning and know that one day I will wish for these days again.

Name some on your bucket list/wish you could do (go as big dreamin’

Becky: I would spend every last dime I had traveling the world. I would take a nanny because, duh, I’m dreaming. Iceland, Greece and India are on my current list of places to go right now. Screw our mortgage and kids college fund. We have places to go! (Note: My husband is super lame and keeps us financially responsible. Insert big sigh here) :)

Mary: I would have a beach house and lake house. I also am dying to go to NYC at Christmas time. I’ve been several times, but not in December.

Where do you see your business/passion project in 5-10 years?

Mary: Honestly, I don’t really know. We would LOVE to still be doing Blue Wife life in 5-10 years, but we don’t really know what that looks like. Hopefully, still a podcast or maybe something else. We’ve had dreams to start retreats for couples or just LEOWs in general. We love encouraging all women and feel like this is something we are suppose to be doing for right now. We are just taking this project one year at a time. It is exciting to think of the possibilities and also to see how far it has come in the last 6 months.

What has been your favorite interview so far?

Mary: All of our interviews have been our favorite :) but one does stick out as really special to me. Allison Uribe of Wives on Duty Ministry was our very first interview. We reached out to her last summer and asked to interview her. We had no listeners at that point, no social media, and not even an email. She was so gracious to let us interview her and to share her wisdom with girls who were supposedly doing a podcast. :). I remember that Becky and I were both SO nervous to do that interview because she was a big deal and it was our first one. We talked about marriage and that episode keeps getting downloaded and is for sure a fan favorite. We really have loved all of our interviewees though because they each bring a unique perspective to our show.

Becky: Yeah, I echo Mary’s sentiment. Allison will always be a special interview to us. What’s cool about our podcast is that while we are so similar we also have very different interests. So when we are discussing podcast topics or people to interview we have different ideas on what’s interesting. We’ve known each other forever so we don’t have to sugarcoat anything and can just say, “BORING! What else ya got for a interview topic?” We are really excited for the next season. We have so many topics and ideas. The hard part is finding the time to get it done!

Who is your ideal client?

Mary: Joanna Gaines, she would be a dream guest for sure. . But my ideal client is also the woman that has something beautiful and ordinary to offer to our audience of Law Enforcement wives.

Becky: Dolly Parton would be fun. I read her autobiography in high school and have loved her ever since. Also Bianca Olthoff. Really, I just want to be her friend! Finally, I’d love to interview Taya Kyle the widow of SEAL Chris Kyle. She shows much strength under pressure.

What should people know about your business/passion project?

That we are totally normal. We do not have journalism backgrounds and as you might have guessed no background in technology. Mary left a career in teaching 2nd graders and I left a career in, well, several things but counseling was the latest. Our husbands are both federal agents but work for different agencies. We never want to pretend that we know it all which is why the podcast is an interview show and not the “Becky & Mary Show.” We are simply facilitators of topics that people find interesting.

What has been your biggest challenge? (could be business or personal)

Mary: Hands down its technology! It never fails when we go to record an episode or video conference someone something goes wrong. Both of our husbands like to make fun of us and tell us were like 65 year old women when it comes to technology. I have to say though, I am really proud of both Becky and I. We are figuring everything out as it comes our way and not always going straight to our husbands to do it for us. :) We also do this during nap times and at night. We are literally just 2 30 something moms trying to figure out how to put a podcast together in our spare time. My personal challenge is to realize that not everyone is going to like me and to stop comparing myself to others. Thank you social media for making me think everyone has it all together, even though I know they don’t. It is just hard to think that when you feel like a hot mess and you favorite Instagram influencer has perfect hair and a clean house.

Becky: Biggest business challenge? Technology! fo sho. I don’t like it and it doesn’t like me. My biggest personal change is loving myself. It’s taken me years to figure out that some of the things I tell myself are not only not true but damaging. I’m trying to see myself through the eyes of Christ.

What is your favorite indulgence?

Becky: Dr. Pepper, all the sugar ( I just ate my second cupcake for the day) and The Real Housewives of any city at all.

Mary: diet coke, chips and guacamole, Fixer Upper, and This is Us

What is one thing you miss?

Mary: SLEEP!

Becky: Having naturally blonde hair that doesn’t have to be highlighted $$$. Just kidding. I miss the freedom of childhood when I didn’t have a care in the world.

In honor of paying it forward & supporting others, what podcast inspires you?!

Mary: The Messy Table Podcast by Jenn Jewell and The Happy Hour Podcast by Jamie Ivey,

Becky: The Popcast, The Bible Binge, The Way I Heard It with Mike Rowe
